The Life of a Child

I've spent my first days of this year reflecting on 2009.  In looking back on Promiseland at the Hilton Head Campus in 2009, I am overhwhelmed with gratitude and respect for the men and women who faithfully serve in Promiseland with a glad heart and passion for our ministry.  Your smiling faces, can-do attitudes and tender hearts for children have encouraged and humbled me.  Although you serve our amazing Lord and Savior, each and every one of you has blessed me in many ways - ways in which I'm sure you are completely unaware.  It is my prayer that you are also richly blessed as you serve on our team.  Children on our campus have heard, from you, about the incredible gift of salvation, and many have accepted this gift in 2009. You make a difference!

This was my blog post from October 23, 2008...it reminded me of why we do what we do:

I've been thinking alot about our LCC children and our role in their futures.  It's so important to teach children who God is!  It can be as simple as showing them the love of God in the way we interact with them.  It starts with babies in reading bible stories and singing songs with them.   As they grow they become more engaged and actively involved in the stories and music.  The minds and hearts of children are open to learning and they really enjoy hearing the truths of God's word! Children are vital in sharing the truth - they will become pastors, pastor's wives, youth leaders, elders, missionaries, prayer warriors, teachers, musicians, and parents. I am blessed to partner with a great team of teachers and parents whose hearts are dedicated to making learning about our Jesus desirable to children. I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for countless people who shared Jesus with me and invested their lives in MY future.  Are you investing in a young soul?

Kids Serving Others

This past Sunday our church (both campuses) took to the streets to serve those in our community.  Our small group visited patients in the hospital, which can be kind of an uncomfortable place for some.  Our Promiseland kids have been coloring get well cards for weeks, which we distributed to each person we visited.  Two of our families participated with their boys. Will was the "card-giver", explaining to EACH patient where they came from - he's only 10! Here's a note from his dad:

"Please share with the group how kids can make such a difference in brightening up someone’s day. The patients really took to Will during our visit - it must be the dimples. Oh by the way, Will came away with a big smile on his face too. It wasn’t what he expected and he had a lot of fun putting smiles on the patient's faces. I think he also enjoyed meeting what he called...the 'you can call me anything you want' lady. He was amazed at what a card and a few minutes will do for someone!" 

I wholeheartedly agree. I love it when a child has that "aha" moment and realizes that they can make a difference in someone's daily life with a simple gesture. It reminds me of one of my favorite verses, I Timothy 4:12: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity."
